The Geng (庚) Day Master — Yang Metal

Updated October 26, 2026

A Geng day master chart is one whose day pillar begins with the stem 庚 (Geng). It is the seventh of the ten Heavenly Stems: Metal in its Yang polarity. Its paired stem is Xin 辛, Yin Metal — the same element, but a different image and a different manner. The general rules of reading are in the article The Day Master; this page covers what is specific to 庚.

The image: ore, an axe, an unfinished blade

The classical image of the stem 庚 is metal in its raw, powerful form: ore in a mountain, an axe, a heavy blade that has not yet been finished. If Xin is a finished piece of jewellery, Geng is the raw stock from which something is still to be forged. Hence the traits the tradition links with the Geng Day Master: decisiveness, directness, a sense of fairness, a readiness to cut cleanly and see things through, toughness forged in hardship. The other side of the image is sharpness, impatience with nuance and resistance to other people's rules.

An important detail of the tradition: raw metal needs fire to become a tool. That is why for 庚 power — Fire — is often described not only as pressure but also as what gives shape. This is not a calculation rule but a classical image, and it helps explain why Geng fares so differently from chart to chart.

Yang Metal in the four seasons

The birth season (月令) — the month pillar branch — is the main factor of strength. Metal is supported by the months of Metal itself (申, 酉) and the months of Earth (辰, 未, 戌, 丑), since Earth produces Metal.

SeasonMonth branchesElement of the branchSeason score for 庚
spring寅 Yin, 卯 MaoWood — Metal controls it−1.5
late spring辰 ChenEarth produces Metal+1.5
summer巳 Si, 午 WuFire controls Metal−1.5
late summer未 WeiEarth produces Metal+1.5
autumn申 Shen, 酉 YouMetal — its own element+1.5
late autumn戌 XuEarth produces Metal+1.5
winter亥 Hai, 子 ZiWater — Metal produces it−0.5
late winter丑 ChouEarth produces Metal+1.5

Autumn is Geng's home season: the whole of autumn, 戌 included, scores +1.5. In spring the axe works on timber — Metal spends its strength controlling Wood, its wealth. In summer the metal is in the furnace: Fire, its power, presses on it, and the tradition describes this as strong outside pressure and a demand to hold one's shape. In winter Metal cools and gives its strength to Water — plenty of expression and thought, less footing. The months 辰, 未 and 丑 give support even outside autumn.

The season is only the first step. Support, drain and roots in the branches are counted next, and a "summer" Geng with good roots may come out close to balanced.

Leaning strong, leaning weak, close to balanced

Leaning strong 庚 is a lot of hard metal. Its favourable elements are Water (output — Eating God and Hurting Officer), Wood (wealth) and Fire (power), with priority to whatever the chart has least of. In everyday terms: tasks where decisiveness turns into results, a clear outside frame and responsibility, work with concrete resources, and room to speak up and explain one's decisions. The typical difficulty of a strong Geng is rigidity and a habit of pushing where agreement would serve better.

Leaning weak 庚 is metal under load: the chart is dominated by Fire, Wood or Water. Its favourable elements are Earth (resource, the seals) and Metal (its own element). Usually this means learning and preparation, clear rules and reliable allies, an even rhythm with pauses, and tasks where one can lean on a proven method before taking on pressure.

Close to balanced — the favourable elements are the two scarcest elements of the chart, and the reading names them. Schools interpret such charts differently, and that is worth keeping in mind.

This is a simplified rule of the Bazi.uz methodology (v1), not a final conclusion. The reading does not recommend colours or relocation: favourable elements are translated into rhythm, types of task and environment.

The Ten Gods around 庚

For the Geng Day Master the stems relate as follows: 庚 — Friend, 辛 — Rob Wealth; 壬 — Eating God, 癸 — Hurting Officer; 甲 — Indirect Wealth, 乙 — Direct Wealth; 丙 — Seven Killings, 丁 — Direct Officer; 戊 — Indirect Resource, 己 — Direct Resource.

The groups that most often stand out for 庚:

  • Resource (Earth). Earth sits among the Hidden Stems of eight branches out of twelve. The stem 戊 is hidden in 寅, 辰, 巳, 申 and 戌 — that is Indirect Resource: unconventional knowledge, self-study; 己 in 丑, 午 and 未 is Direct Resource. Resource nourishes Geng and often serves as its footing.
  • Power (Fire). 丙 is Seven Killings, 丁 is Direct Officer. In summer and in charts with 巳 or 午 this group comes to the fore: demands, discipline, status. For a weak 庚 it is a load; for a strong one it is the very "forging" that turns ore into a tool.
  • Wealth (Wood). In spring and with 甲, 乙, 寅 or 卯 — Indirect and Direct Wealth: working with resources and practical results.

The tradition notes the stem combination 乙庚 (Metal): Direct Wealth 乙 "combines" with the Day Master. This is reference material; the Bazi.uz reading does not use it when assessing strength.

In the year 2027, 丁未, the year stem 丁 is Direct Officer for the Geng Day Master, the main qi of the branch 未 (Ji) is Direct Resource, and the hidden 乙 is Direct Wealth. The tradition reads this combination as a period favourable for responsibility and status backed by learning: power and resource come as a pair, and the pressure is balanced by support.

The day pillar as the spouse palace

The branch under the day stem is the spouse palace: in the tradition it describes close relationships and personal space, and its Hidden Stems are the "contents" of the palace. The Yang stem 庚 pairs only with Yang branches, so there are six 庚 days (main qi listed first):

Day pillarHidden Stems of the branch and their gods
庚子Gui — Hurting Officer
庚寅Jia — Indirect Wealth, Bing — Seven Killings, Wu 戊 — Indirect Resource
庚辰Wu 戊 — Indirect Resource, Yi — Direct Wealth, Gui — Hurting Officer
庚午Ding — Direct Officer, Ji — Direct Resource
庚申Geng — Friend, Ren — Eating God, Wu 戊 — Indirect Resource
庚戌Wu 戊 — Indirect Resource, Xin — Rob Wealth, Ding — Direct Officer

Hurting Officer in the palace (庚子) brings the theme of directness and sharp words in close relationships; Resource (庚辰, 庚戌) care and support, sometimes over-protectiveness; Direct Officer (庚午) clear commitments and mutual expectations; Friend (庚申) a union of equals where agreeing on who leads matters; Wealth (庚寅) practicality. These are tendencies of the palace, not a description of a partner. An example of a 庚子 day is on the page for 2 March 1985.

Work and money

Yang Metal is the element of decision, selection and structure. The Geng Day Master usually takes naturally to tasks that call for making a decision and owning it: managing in crisis situations, quality control, technical and engineering work, reviewing and auditing processes, negotiating from a clear position, cutting away the excess and putting things in order. Challenges with a clear goal come easily; long approval chains with no result are harder.

Wealth for 庚 is Wood. A strong Geng traditionally finds it easier to "chop" — to take resources directly and close a deal; a weak one benefits from first leaning on a method, a team and rules, and only then scaling up. This describes tendencies, not financial advice.

Common reading mistakes

Reading "Seven Killings" literally. For 庚 the Fire stem 丙 is Seven Killings, but that is a term for pressure and challenge, not a threat.

Judging without the season. Geng in the 酉 month and Geng in the 午 month are different charts with the same image.

Treating "weak" as a verdict on the person. Weak Yang Metal is a chart that needs a footing and a method, not a "soft character".

Confusing Geng and Xin. Both are Metal, but 辛 is Yin: finished, refined metal with a different manner and different Ten Gods.

Frequently asked questions

Which months support the Geng Day Master?

The Metal months 申 and 酉 and the Earth months 辰, 未, 戌 and 丑 score +1.5 under the methodology's rule. The Water months 亥 and 子 score −0.5, the Wood months 寅, 卯 and Fire months 巳, 午 score −1.5. Month boundaries follow the solar terms (jieqi).

Why does Fire matter so much for Geng?

Fire controls Metal and is power for 庚: 丙 is Seven Killings, 丁 is Direct Officer. The tradition describes this as forging ore; in the calculation, though, Fire favours a strong Geng and burdens a weak one.

How does the Geng Day Master differ from Xin?

Both are Metal, but 庚 is Yang: ore and an axe, direct action. 辛 is Yin: jewellery, fine finishing. For 庚 the stem 丁 is Direct Officer, while for 辛 it is Seven Killings.

What does 2027 mean for the Geng Day Master?

The stem 丁 is Direct Officer, the main qi of the branch 未 is Direct Resource, and the hidden 乙 is Direct Wealth. The tradition reads it as a period of responsibility and status in which pressure is balanced by support.
