Frequently asked questions

What is BaZi?

BaZi (八字, "eight characters") is a Chinese system for describing character and life periods from the date and time of birth. A chart has four pillars — year, month, day and hour — and each pillar pairs a Heavenly Stem with an Earthly Branch. Together they give eight characters and a balance of the Five Elements.

Do I need my exact time of birth?

It helps: the time sets the hour pillar. If you don't know it, we build three pillars (year, month and day) and state clearly what the chart is missing. We never fill in noon by default.

How is BaZi different from Western astrology?

BaZi does not use planetary positions. The chart follows the solar calendar of 24 terms and is read through the Five Elements, their polarity and how they interact. It is a system in its own right, not a translation of the Western one.

What is a reading?

A reading is a structured analysis of your chart in six sections, from an overview of the chart to practical guidance. It speaks in terms of tendencies rather than forecasts, and every point is grounded in a specific element of your chart. It is for informational purposes and is not a substitute for professional advice.
