The Bing Day Master 丙 — Yang Fire
Updated October 26, 2026
A Bing day master is the stem 丙 in the day pillar — Yang Fire. The tradition compares this third of the ten Heavenly Stems to the sun: it shines broadly, on everyone at once, and can be seen from afar. Below is how to read such a Day Master in the Bazi.uz methodology: the image, the season, strength, favourable elements, the Ten Gods, the spouse palace and typical mistakes. The general framework is in the article Day Master.
The image: the sun
Classical commentaries link the character 丙 to bright, manifest light — the moment when what was growing out of sight becomes visible. The image of the stem is the sun. It does not choose whom to shine on; its warmth reaches far; it sets the rhythm of the day. Hence the traditional traits of Bing: openness, generosity, directness, a wish to be seen and to energise others, and at times impatience and a tendency to shine "in every direction at once".
Next to Yin Fire, Ding 丁 — a candle flame — the difference is clear. The sun lights a square, a candle lights a particular table. Bing acts broadly and visibly, Ding precisely and up close. This is a difference in manner, not in strength.
Bing across the four seasons
The season is scored by the element of the month branch: 寅卯 — Wood, 巳午 — Fire, 申酉 — Metal, 亥子 — Water, 辰未戌丑 — Earth. For Fire the picture is:
| Month branches | Season element | Relation to Bing | Season score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 巳 Si, 午 Wu (summer) | Fire | own element | +1.5 |
| 寅 Yin, 卯 Mao (spring) | Wood | produces Fire | +1.5 |
| 辰 Chen, 未 Wei, 戌 Xu, 丑 Chou | Earth | Fire produces Earth | −0.5 |
| 申 Shen, 酉 You (autumn) | Metal | Fire controls Metal | −1.5 |
| 亥 Hai, 子 Zi (winter) | Water | controls Fire | −1.5 |
In summer (巳午) the sun is at its height — the season of strength, and the 巳 branch even holds Bing itself as main qi. In spring (寅卯) Wood feeds Fire — a season of support; Bing is hidden in 寅 as the second stem. The Earth months (辰未戌丑): Fire gives itself to Earth, a moderate drain — −0.5 rather than −1.5. In autumn (申酉) Fire has to "work" on Metal, which spends energy. In winter (亥子) Water puts out Fire, the hardest season for Bing: the sun is low and the days are short.
After the season come support (Fire and Wood in the other characters), drain (Earth, Metal, Water) and roots: Fire as main qi in 巳 or 午 (+0.5) or as a hidden stem in 寅, 未 or 戌 (+0.25).
Leaning strong, leaning weak, close to balanced
A Bing leaning weak is the sun behind clouds or in winter, with a lot of Water, Metal or Earth around it. The favourable elements are the resource (Wood) and its own element (Fire). In everyday terms: a rhythm with time to build up momentum, tasks where one grows through learning and proven methods, and an environment with people who share the enthusiasm and pick up the initiative.
A Bing leaning strong is a summer sun without shade: plenty of energy that needs direction and measure. Output (Earth), Wealth (Metal) and Power (Water) are favourable, starting with whichever is scarcer in the chart. In practice: tasks where energy turns into a product, responsibility for a specific resource and result, and external rules, deadlines and feedback that keep it from scattering.
Close to balanced: the two scarcest elements of the chart are treated as favourable. Schools read borderline charts differently, and the Bazi.uz reading warns about it; the favourable-element rule in v1 is simplified.
The Ten Gods around Bing
| Stem | God for Bing |
|---|---|
| 丙 Bing / 丁 Ding | Friend / Rob Wealth |
| 戊 Wu / 己 Ji | Eating God / Hurting Officer |
| 庚 Geng / 辛 Xin | Indirect / Direct Wealth |
| 壬 Ren / 癸 Gui | Seven Killings / Direct Officer |
| 甲 Jia / 乙 Yi | Indirect / Direct Resource |
Ren — Seven Killings. Yang Water against Yang Fire. Yet the tradition does not describe the 丙壬 pair only as pressure: the sun over great water is an image of reflected light and scale. For a strong Bing, Ren brings challenge and reach; for a weak one, a load that Resource balances. Gui — Direct Officer: rain and clouds, soft but tangible frameworks. Geng — Indirect Wealth: Fire smelts ore — working with opportunities and projects. Xin — Direct Wealth, plus the 丙辛 stem combination (Water): the tradition sees a pull towards value and order here. Jia and Yi — Resource: Wood feeds Fire, the main support for a weak Bing. Wu — Eating God: the sun over a mountain, a calm and substantial way of expressing oneself.
The day pillar as the spouse palace
The branch under the Day Master is the spouse palace, the area of close partnership and personal space. Its Hidden Stems are the palace's "contents". Bing is a Yang stem and pairs with Yang branches:
| Day pillar | Hidden Stems of the branch and their gods |
|---|---|
| 丙子 | Gui — Direct Officer |
| 丙寅 | Jia — Indirect Resource, Bing — Friend, Wu — Eating God |
| 丙辰 | Wu — Eating God, Yi — Direct Resource, Gui — Direct Officer |
| 丙午 | Ding — Rob Wealth, Ji — Hurting Officer |
| 丙申 | Geng — Indirect Wealth, Ren — Seven Killings, Wu — Eating God |
| 丙戌 | Wu — Eating God, Xin — Direct Wealth, Ding — Rob Wealth |
These are themes the tradition links with close relationships — support, equality, commitments, demands — not a portrait of a specific person. Clashes of the day branch are considered separately: for instance, 子 clashes with 午 and 申 with 寅.
Work and money
Bing usually shows itself best in tasks where visibility and drive matter: public-facing work, presenting, teaching large groups, launching and promoting, roles where one sets the tone and brings people in. Wealth for Bing is Metal: resources tend to come when energy is "recast" into a concrete form — a product, a system, an agreement. Output for Bing is Earth: the ability to turn an idea into a tangible result. If the chart has many Friends and Rob Wealth, Bing often feels cramped in solitary routine work and needs people, an audience and exchange; if Power is strong, a structure with clear rules and feedback works better. These are tendencies, not a list of professions; the choice depends on the whole chart and the Luck Pillars.
Common misreadings
- "Bing means always bright and strong." A winter Bing surrounded by Water often leans weak.
- Treating Earth months as being as hard as winter. For Fire, Earth is Output, not control: −0.5, not −1.5.
- Treating "weak" as a judgement of the person. It only hints at what the chart needs for balance.
- Confusing Bing with Ding. Both are Fire, but the same stems are different Ten Gods for each.
Bing in 2027
In 2027 — the 丁未 year — the stem Ding becomes Bing's Rob Wealth, the Wei main qi (Ji) its Hurting Officer and the hidden Yi its Direct Resource. Read more in 2027, the Ding Wei year. For a sample chart with this Day Master, see 8 March 1985.
Frequently asked questions
How can I tell whether my Day Master is Bing?
Build your chart: the Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of the day pillar. If it is 丙, your Day Master is Bing, Yang Fire. The birth time usually does not affect the day stem, except for births around midnight, but it is needed for the hour pillar and a full strength assessment.
Which elements are favourable for a Bing Day Master?
Leaning weak — Wood and Fire; leaning strong — Earth, Metal and Water (starting with whichever is scarcer in the chart); close to balanced — the two scarcest elements of the chart.
Is Water always bad for Bing?
No. For Bing, Water is Power: demands, frameworks, responsibility. It is favourable for a strong Bing because it gives the energy direction; for a weak Bing it is worth balancing with Wood.
How is Bing different from Ding?
Bing is the sun — broad light and an open manner; Ding is a candle flame — focused light and attention to detail. Ren, for example, is Seven Killings for Bing but Direct Officer for Ding.
